Todd Goodsell

Todd Goodsell

Funeral Director and Owner

I was born in Logan, Utah, and raised in Newton, Utah, on a family dairy farm, the oldest of five children. As a youth, I believed that continuing in the dairy industry would be my life calling. The dairy and caring for cattle were all I thought I knew how to do. That all changed in 1981 when as a very young man, my wife and I found out our first child was going to be twins, and within weeks of that glorious news, tragedy struck. The babies were delivered way too early.
We lost our sons Steven and Travis just days after their birth. The deaths were life-changing events for many reasons. Still, the most important was the experience of going through the arrangements and the funeral itself. My mother, Sandra (Bowman) Goodsell, a Cub River native, called on Spencer Cranney, another Preston boy and owner of the former Cranney Mortuary in Logan, to help us. Mom had known Spencer growing up and trusted him. I knew very little about death and the funeral and grieving process at that time of my life.
The closest I had come was attending the funeral of a couple of my great-grandparents, which always had felt cold and somewhat sterile. The concept of planning a funeral was one I could not grasp at that time, so I was grateful that someone stepped in to take over. What a fantastic man Spencer turned out to be and a man who truly changed my life. The funeral service he provided, his compassion, and his dedication to ensuring that my wife and I could spend the time we needed with our baby boys. He took the time to talk to us, answering our questions. I did not know it then, but the seed was planted in me to realize soon that this is what I wanted to do with my life. I wanted to be able to help people in the way that he helped us. I wanted to be that person, to step in and help a family going through a loss and improve things. Spencer turned the horrific life experience of two scared young kids into a bearable life experience. He set the wheels in motion for me to want to pay back that dedication and service to other families. I have always tried to do that with the families who have given me the honor of serving them and their loved ones.

In 1986 I relocated my family to Pasco, Washington, where I worked on a dairy farm again. While there, I saw an advertisement for someone to work part-time at a local funeral home, primarily lite maintenance and yard care. I jumped at the chance, and within weeks, that part-time job became my full-time reality, and the rest is history.

I completed an apprenticeship in Washington State with Bruce Lee Memorial Chapel. Then I relocated to Rupert, Idaho, where I could be closer to my family in Utah. I worked with Arvin Hansen at Hansen Mortuary, completing an apprenticeship in Idaho while obtaining my general education classes. I also served a term as the Minidoka County Coroner. I then relocated my family to Portland, Oregon, where I attended mortuary school, graduating in 1991.

It is good to be back in Cache Valley, where I have an extensive family, including parents, siblings, aunts, and uncles galore. It is good to be able to see them all again regularly. I have three sons and three beautiful daughters-in-law who have given me 12 grandchildren. Life is good.

He enjoys and performs a vast repertoire of musical selections. Bobby finds that these songs bring particular comfort and solace to grieving families; Nearer My God To Thee, Amazing Grace, and Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again.

Carla Bodily

Carla Bodily

Funeral Assistant

I was born in Nephi, Utah, and settled in Lewiston, Utah, after marrying my husband, Fizz Bodily. I have four grown children and an ever-growing number of grandchildren.

Even though Fizz and Todd had grown up together, even sharing the same birthday, the three of us had lost touch with each other as adults.

Shortly after Todd opened Franklin County Funeral Home, my daughter sadly delivered a stillborn baby girl. We called on Todd to help with services. He provided us with a beautiful memorial service for our granddaughter. He helped my grieving daughter and son-in-law with the whole process, walking them through each step and encouraging my daughter to spend time with her baby, which she was struggling to do. He provided all his time and services at no cost to the family, which he does for all babies.

Even though I had no intention of working for a funeral home, I decided to do whatever I could to help make Franklin County Funeral Home a success, including donating my time to help provide help to Todd and the funeral home and to provide services to families in need.

I have since learned many aspects of the business, including assisting with death calls, viewings, and services.

From Thanksgiving to Christmas, my husband and I spend a portion of almost every day playing the role of Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Preneed/After Care Specialist

Hello my name is Skyler. I was born and raised in Ogden Utah and have been raised to love the outdoors! From hiking and camping, to skiing in the winters, it’s pretty easy to find me doing something on those beautiful mountains. I’m very passionate about cameras and love to take photos and videos to edit and make into art. I am an extrovert who loves working with people and helping where possible. My father is also from Preston, Idaho, where he worked on a small dairy farm, so I feel a sense of home being here. I am very happy to be a part of Franklin County Funeral Home.
